A Very Hungry Caterpillar
On October 8, 2009, Southside Middle School students participated in Read for the Record Day. Read for the Record Day brings national attention to the importance of early education and is the world’s largest celebration of reading, community service and fun! Each year, the campaign sets a world record for the most children reading the same book with an adult on the same day. During the past three years, more than 1,000,000 children have participated in the Read for the Record Campaign. Now in its 4th year, the Read for the Record Campaign is hoping to break the world record for the number of adults and children reading the same book on the same day in support of early childhood education!

Southside students were treated to the book The Very Hungry Caterpillar in a celebration of reading, service and fun. Dr. Varner, Coach Dean, Mrs. Parker, and several others read with the students. SMS students became a part of history on October 8th and hope to participate again next year!
