Thanksgiving

November 12, 2009

As we approach the Thanksgiving holidays, it’s important that we take some time and think about what we have to be thankful for.  We each have so many things going on in our lives, both good and bad, that affect our outlook on life.  But consider the 3rd verse of the old spiritual hymnal “Count your many blessings”:

Are you ever burdened with a load of care?
Does the cross seem heavy you are called to bear?
Count your many blessings, every doubt will fly,
And you will keep singing as the days go by.

Personally, I find it impossible to count all of the blessing that have been bestowed on me.  My beautiful wife and kids, having parents that live close by, being financially stable in these tough economic times, never having to experience true hunger, my friends, and I could go on and on.

I am also thankful to live in the greatest country in the world!  I am thankful for the Veterans we honored at our assembly this week, and for the sacrifices they have made for this great country.

Professionally, I am thankful to work at Southside Middle School.  What a blessing it was to see our kids perform at the assembly Tuesday.  What a blessing it is to work among such a great, loving and caring faculty.  With sincere humility, I understand that Southside is a special place because of all of you, not because of me.  I am blessed to have been at the right place at the right time, and I am thankful just to be a part of something so special.

I Thessalonians 5:18 says “In all things, give thanks . . .”

God has been much better to me than I deserve, and I am thankful!  What do you have to be thankful for in this season of Thanksgiving?
